Bridging the gap – Heavy vehicle awareness
Truck Sense is so much more than an education program for young drivers.
Our team is working tirelessly gathering data from young drivers and heavy vehicle operators to fully understand the knowledge gap that is putting our young drivers at considerable risk on our roads when travelling around heavy vehicles.
Our program then takes this data and transforms it in to easily understandable, relative and impactful information for our main audience of teenage and young adult drivers.
Our Goal
Truck Sense’s goal is to reduce the number of accidents, reduce fatalities, reduce frustrations and create a safer environments for both car drivers and the heavy vehicle drivers.
Why do we need Truck Sense?
There are a number or fantastic programs that teach young drivers about road safety. They reinforce the important messages about the effects of speeding, using mobile phones, alcohol and drug use, fatigue and being distracted when driving. These are all vital messages that our young drivers need to know. However, there seems to be a significant gap in the information being provided to young drivers about the differences of driving in a car compared to driving in a truck or bus. For young drivers, being able to understand the capabilities and restrictions of these larger and heavier vehicles is an urgent message that must be heard.
Why is this so urgent?
Public education about sharing the road with heavy vehicles is paramount. Not just for car drivers but for the tens of thousands of Australian’s employed as heavy vehicle operators whom just want to get home safely after their day at work.
We have been reminded over and over again, “the road is there to share” so let’s make sure we teach our young drivers how to share with heavy vehicles too.
